More Hats!! Groundhog Day and Another Lovely Sunset

Tuesday 14th November 2006 - Bonding - Day 13

After our late night last night we were all looking forward to a night in tonight!! All tired this morning at breakfast – Declan opted out – Aine & Alex opted back in after breakfasting in bed for the past week. Funny breakfast – this morning was fish, fried potatoes, semolina and heart shaped pastries! Somedays edible, somedays not – yesterday we had burger for breakfast! Was quite nice if a little strange.

Well, Groundhog day is alive and well and operating in Ust –Kamenogorsk. Bang on 10 o’clock, we meet in the lobby and proceed out to our maroon van, where Alexi, our patient driver sits waiting to drive us to the Baby Home. We climb in, all tend to pick the same seats every day, I will either bang my head climbing in, or getting out amid sympathetic laughs from Alexi and Alfiya, and ‘You plonker, you have done it again’ from Sue and the others!! I don’t learn and will repeat the same thing tomorrow.

Today was another beautiful day and we did not need our coats although everyone here seems to be in winter season and are well wrapped up. Although it freezes at night to me it does not seem to be as cold as freezing is at home – Does that sound stupid? Well, that is as it is! My jacket generally remains in the wardrobe.

Hey - Am I still in here?!

Alex is so used to us now – smiles when he arrives into the bonding room and initially will love to sit and look at all his toys before deciding he wants to walk. He wants to be on the move all the time and pulling himself up to stand. Alfiya came to get us to sign more papers, registration forms for the babies with the Kazakh Embassy in London. Seemingly it is now done before we leave Kazakhstan instead of having to do it once we get home.

After our morning visit, once again it was Pizza Blue for Sue & I and we had a very successful internet day – got to send lots of emails to everyone and strolled back to the hotel in time for our afternoon trip to the Baby House. Sasha came in in a very fetching pair of red tights which went perfectly with his little cream jacket. We got some lovely photos of him today – am trying to work out if he has blond hair which is going red or red hair which is turning blond!! Guess, time will tell.

We had another lovely sunset this evening and have some wonderful photos. Yesterday we also took some of the stroll by the river. It is very picturesque with the silver birch trees, now bare, of course. However, the city itself is not so pretty, large apartment blocks, and dull, grey buildings. Am sure in ten years time or so it will be unrecognizable as the same place as no doubt, new buildings will spring up. Already, there are some fancy shop fronts and a little more wealth to be seen in the city centre.

Have got a bit slack with my Russian but have learned that:
Brat – is brother – well, we all knew that from years back!!!
Sistra – sister

Will renew my efforts tomorrow!!
Paka, Paka till tomorrow…
