Last Saturday, after our travel hopes for Tuesday being dashed on FRIDAY 13th and with the pressure of getting ready for travel being off once again Darrelle, Elena and I decided to have a 'Girls Day Out'. We decided to go to the movies and picked a film that we thought would keep Elena interested! We decided to go to see 'A Tale of Two Kitties'. After demolishing her popcorn and after 5 full minutes of watching the 'big screen' she decided to amuse herself for the remainder of the film by checking out all the different seats in all the different rows! We were able to allow her to do this as we were the only people there and it meant Darrelle and I got to enjoy the movie without getting any way stressed!!
Afterwards we went for a browse in a local toy shop where Elena met up with her friend Muirenn from the creche so that made her day! We had lunch in a lovely Italian restaurant and once again had the place to ourselves.
Later, deciding we needed to track down some people we paid a visit with my friend Bridget and her daughter Susie to a 'Biotech Homes' exhibition that was on in Ennis for the weekend to see if there was anything we should be buying for our new home - the slowest house in history (one year on and still no windows!). Elena started to back out the door as soon as she walked in - following her line of vision she had spotted a lifesize Dora the Explorer, SpongeBob and a very tall, but skinny(just finished Lipotrim!) Barney. She was petrified. On the plus side it meant she stayed by my side for the entire time we were there although she did get a little braver as time went on and warmed up to SpongeBob but stayed very wary of Barney and Dora!
However, she was very delighted with her own SpongeBob (see photo above) - Thank you Bridget! - that she brought home but did announce that he 'cannot sleep in my room but has to sleep downstairs' so he is residing in the sitting room until he runs out of helium!! Our little social butterfly is very easily scared and needs lots of reassurance that things are safe. Darrelle loves when she is like this because she gets to give her lots of hugs!
For those of you that don't know we have a microwave in our kitchen that functions perfectly well, if not better as a mirror! For the past number of years Darrelle has used the microwave every morning to brush her hair and check that she is presentable before heading to school. Elena has recently started doing the very same thing. Note that the oven is at a perfect height for her until she is able to stretch high enough to see into the microwave/mirror!! We must remember to make provisions for this in our new kitchen!!
